Prof. Dr. Arif Maftuhin, M.Ag., M.A.I.S. is a professor of Islamic Law at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta whose work bridges Islamic jurisprudence, disability rights, inclusive theology, and contemporary social justice issues. He earned his Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from UIN Sunan Kalijaga and a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Washington, alongside earlier degrees in Islamic Law and Arabic teaching. From 2021 to 2022, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
He currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Dakwah and Communication, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, for the 2024–2028 term. In this role, he promotes a model of academic leadership grounded in inclusive governance, ethical public responsibility, evidence-based planning, and the strengthening of dakwah studies as a field connected to humanity, social transformation, and civilization. His leadership reflects the faculty’s broader commitment to integrative-interconnective education, community empowerment, accessibility, digital adaptation, and global academic engagement.
Prof. Maftuhin previously served as Editor-in-Chief of Inklusi: Journal of Disability Studies and Executive Editor of al-Jami’ah: Journal of Islamic Studies. His research on Islamic law, gender, disability, and social justice has been published in leading Scopus-indexed journals such as Studia Islamika, Indonesia and the Malay World, and Journal of Disability & Religion. Beyond academia, he is known for his advocacy of disability inclusion and for his effort to develop more humane, accessible, and context-sensitive interpretations of Islamic law.
