Prof. Dr. Arif Maftuhin, M.Ag., M.A.I.S. is a professor of Islamic Law at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, whose work bridges Islamic jurisprudence, disability rights, and inclusive theology. He earned his Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from UIN Sunan Kalijaga and a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Washington, alongside earlier degrees in Islamic Law and Arabic Studies. From 2021 to 2022, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of Inklusi: Journal of Disability Studies and was Executive Editor of al-Jami’ah: Journal of Islamic Studies. His research on Islamic law, gender, and disability has been published in leading Scopus-indexed journals such as Studi Islamika, Indonesia and the Malay World, and Journal of Disability & Religion. A prolific translator and writer, he has translated major works from English and Arabic and authored influential books including Filantropi Islam, Masjid Ramah Difabel, Historiografi Hukum Islam, and Menerjemah Fikih Sosial. Fluent in Arabic and English, with working knowledge of Spanish and Hebrew, Prof. Maftuhin’s scholarship is grounded in both classical Islamic thought and contemporary social issues. His work advocates for an inclusive, ethical, and context-sensitive interpretation of Islamic law.
