About Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Indonesia:

The Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University (UIN Sunan Kalijaga), Yogyakarta, stands as one of the university’s oldest and most dynamic faculties, rooted in a rich academic tradition since 1961. Originally established with the Department of Arabic Literature, the faculty has progressively expanded its academic scope in response to societal needs and intellectual developments. In 2010, it was officially renamed to reflect its broadened academic mission, encompassing not only language and literature but also cultural and historical studies.

A notable highlight relevant to the 9th ILISS Conference is the faculty’s long-standing commitment to library and information science education. Since launching a Diploma in Islamic Library and Information Science in 1997, the faculty has grown to offer a well-regarded Bachelor’s program in Library and Information Science (LIS), officially recognized in 2002. The program has since become one of the faculty’s flagship offerings, gaining national accreditation and playing a pivotal role in producing skilled information professionals grounded in both Islamic and modern LIS paradigms.

In alignment with its vision to provide high-quality, future-oriented education, the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences continues to develop its academic offerings. It currently houses six accredited study programs, including Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Arabic Language and Literature, Islamic History and Civilization, English Literature, and Library and Information Science—each holding a high or excellent accreditation status from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). The faculty is also supported by a robust academic community of over 75 permanent lecturers and a growing student body from across Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

As the host of the 9th ILISS Conference, the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences provides not only a historically rich setting but also a contextually relevant academic environment for critical discourse on library and information science. Its strong institutional foundation, academic excellence, and commitment to intellectual development position the faculty as a fitting and inspiring venue for scholars, practitioners, and students engaged in the future of LIS.
